Pleasures by Estee Lauder

OK, I have to first admit that I have always been a big Estee Lauder fan. This is the woman who popularized the whole concept of the free sample! How can you not love her? Plus her perfumes tend to be very strong, and I'm a big fan of letting people smell me coming.

Pleasures is what they call a "sheer floral," but a sheer floral from Estee Lauder is more like a big floral in other places. I'm not saying it's better, just that you shouldn't be fooled by wording promising you a light, sheer scent. This is big. It's also a sweet kind of floral, sweet in the sense of being full of happy flowers like jasmine and honeysuckle, not some brooding dark orchid or weird tropical plant.

It's what I would call a competent perfume, perfectly suited for everyday wear. It wears very well on me; it starts off bold and then mellows to a very respectable, pleasant floral scent. It is a summery scent, great for daytime wear, casual events, and sporty women. I think it would be a great perfume for youthful wearers, but they tend to avoid this brand. Pity.

Pleasures is one of those confusing scents that comes in a whole family. There are also related scents known as Pleasures Exotic, Pleasures Intense, and Pleasures Delight. We'll save those reviews for other days.

Pleasures, the main scent, is a very charming perfume, one that I suspect would wear well on a wide range of women and one suitable for a wide range of activites. The last time I went on a cruise, it was the perfume I took because I thought it would be appropriate for just about any occasion, from an evening in the lounge to the captain's table to playing minigolf on deck.
